Cheap Ski Holidays in France

France is literally a country with some of the most amazing, versatile, diverse places offering some of Europe’s best conditions, high altitude skiing with a range of runs to suit every ability and taste. There is some breathtaking glaciers to ski, some incredible off piste opportunities and some amazing freestyle parks for the snowboarders. With a very long ski season, often running from late November to late April and a reliable snowfall, and of course many resorts offering state of the art lift systems, its not surprising British holiday makers travel to France year after year for their ski holiday.

France is easily accessible from the UK, with Planes, trains and auto-mobiles being common modes of transport to get you from here to there. Many of the French airports are served from most UK airports and many cheap airlines offer amazing prices and unusual durations too. Also the world famous snow train is a really quick and easy way to get you to some of the highest resorts in France, often overlooked, and can get you on the piste quicker than the average coach trip.

With France being so huge, many of the ski areas are split into areas, many resorts covered on one lift pass. The Three valleys is a popular destination with resorts including Brides Le Bain, Courchevel, La Tania, Meribel and Val Thorens, to name but a few. These resorts offer amazing glacier skiing, excellent for skiers of all abilities and snowboarders and cross country skiers have an excellent choice of terrain too.

La Plagne and Les Arcs are part of the Paradiski ski region, offering high altitude skiing, and some of the most advanced piste in Europe. With over 450 km of runs to choose from, there is a variety of runs again to suit all ages, ability and taste. With a lovely selection of bars and restaurants offering traditional cuisine make these destinations good all rounders.

The Espace Killy region includes some world famous resorts, the best known being Tignes and Val D'isere, where its common to see ski competitions of all levels up to world cup standards being held here. Offering again, outstanding snow, well groomed piste and a lively apres ski.

There are many other areas and resorts, beginners are particularly drawn to resorts such as La Clusaz, Valmorel and La Rossiere with fabulous nursery slopes, the all famous Ecole Du Ski, a local ski school renowned for amazing tuition and English speaking instructors. Intermediates will fin themselves drawn to incredible resorts such as Morzine and Montgenerve, or Alpe D'Huez, Chamonix and Serre Chevalier, all offering phenomenal conditions, excellent choice of places to wine and dine and some quality accommodation at amazing prices.

Add to this, some of the worlds finest cuisine, beautiful scenic mountain restaurants, its difficult to find anywhere better for a winter wonderland ski experience.

Money

The Euro (EUR) is the official currency in France. Currency canbe exchanged at banks, bureaux de change and some large hotels,though you will get a better exchange rate at the ATMs. Majorcredit cards are widely accepted, as are travellers cheques,particularly in major tourist destinations. Foreign currency is notaccepted.

Climate

The south of France has a warm Mediterranean climate with hotsummers and mild winters. Strong winds, known as la Mistral, canoccur in the Cote d'Azur, Provence and in the Rhone valleyparticularly over the winter and spring. Northern France, includingParis, has a temperate climate similar to southern England withwarm summers, cold winters and rainfall throughout the year. Thewestern coast, from the Loire valley to the Pyrenees, is milder andsummer days are generally very hot. During the second half of Julyand August most French take their five-week vacation to the coastsand mountains, and empty cities tend to shut down accordingly.
