Skiing in America has got to be one of the most phenomenal ski experiences. Everyone should try it at some point in their life, there is nothing else like it. The vast aand varied resorts in the USA are some of the best laid out pistes and the best managed runs you are ever likely to ski.
American resorts cater for every type of skier, from complete beginner to advanced, including boarders and cross country skiers too. Families, groups, intermediates or veterans and experts, there’s something for everyone, and all offer the ultimate challenge regardless of your level or ability.
We all know the USA is a vast country, so the ski resorts are split into areas too, firstly you have Colorado, or The Rockies, including resorts such as Winter Park, Breckenridge, Vail, Aspen, Snowmass and Steamboat, all offering terrific powder snow, traditional All American villages and a great variety of runs. The off piste opportunities are second to none too.
When people think of California, they rarely think if skiing, its usually Los Angeles or Hollywood, but California is host to 2 of the most extensive ski resorts in America, Lake Tahoe and Mammoth Mountain. Where else can you be skiing down beautiful powder snow and looking over into the Nevada Desert?? With over 600 runs to pick from, its impossible to ski every resort in a season, let alone ski them all in a week. That and 40 feet of powder snow every season, its no wonder that these two resorts are firm favourites with return clientèle.
Then there’s some fabulous skiing in New England with Killington and New Hampshire offering 5* facilities and runs for skiers of all abilities, offering the largest ski areas on the East Coast. The ski areas are made up of six interlinked mountains offering state of the art lift systems and some double black diamond runs making it especially brilliant for advanced skiers.
Other popular resorts are Park City in Utah and Jackson Hole in Wyoming offering 30 feet of powder snow, well laid out runs and some amazing scenery to boot. Jackson Hole is like visiting the Wild Wild West, with bars like The Mangy Moose, a resort unlike anywhere else in the states, and Park City is to the opposite extreme with solitude and peace being the main attraction, skiing on virgin snow and only 40 kilometres from Salt Lake City makes this another fantastic resort to enjoy.
Only in America will you experience snow so deep that houses are covered. The service and hospitality is second to none and the towns and villages each have a charm different from anything else you will ever see anywhere else. In words used by Americans.......Awesome...truly Awesome.!!!!

The United States of America covers a large region, stretching from east to west across six time zones and therefore it is no surprise that the country has a varied climate, ranging from arcticregions to deserts. California, on the west coast of the US, has a pleasant, Mediterranean climate, and the Pacific Northwest Coast has more of a maritime climate, with cooler summers and mildwinters, influenced by westerly winds. The central part of the US has extreme temperature variations and a continental climate - with cold winters and hot summers (with tornadoes). The eastern central US tends to be more humid, while the western central US is semi arid. The east side of the country has a continental climate caused by air masses moving from west to east, with hot summers anda prevalence of tornadoes in the Mississippi River area. Florida has the warmest winters on the eastern seaboard. It is recommended that travellers research the climate in the specific state they wish to visit when choosing when to travel.
