Q : Train, Plane or Car?
A : If you are taking your own ski's dont forget that some airlines charge for ski carriage.
Self -drive with an average of 10-12 hours to the Alps is often a cheaper option especially for families than flying. If you are self-catering, having a car means you can save money by stocking up at local supermarkets outside the resort, aswell as having a means by which to get to the slopes everyday if you are not situated within walking distance or near a local bus stop.
You can get an extra day if you travel by the overnight snowtrain, operated by Rail Europe and Eurostar, which normally runs from St Pancras in London to six international stations. |
Q : Lessons, Equipment and Liftpasses?
A : Keep an eye on the cost of lift-passes as they vary from resort to resort. If you are going to a large ski area you could save money by buying a local pass and then a days extention to the whole ski area. For example - Trois Vallee is £175 but you can buy a pass for just Courchevel for £141 and a Trois vallee extention for £17.....saving a total of £34 per couple.(Which you could then put towards a nice cold Beer/Vin chaud after a hard days skiing!!)
Also, Look out for our many great deals where lift-passes are included in the price of the holiday. The savings here per couple can reach upto £300.
If you are new to skiing don't splash out on expensive skiwear or go to top international resorts with huge ski areas. Pick smaller resorts where tuition and lift-passes are cheaper and try and borrow suitable clothing or pick up some cheap ski bargains from places such as TK Max. A ski holiday can quickly become an expensive holiday if you splash out on clothes and equipment that you may only use once a year or even worse never again! |
