Pal is a beautiful resort set high up the the Pyrenees mountains, adjoining the famous resort of Arinsal. Now both areas are linked by a new lift system and offer a bigger choice of well groomed piste all on one lift pass. Pal is the sunniest resort in Andorra, and whilst it can be thick fog or thick snow, pal rarely has a cloud in the sky. Unfortunately this does make the ski season slightly shorter, but when the snow is there, there is nowhere better, especially for families or beginners who are not used to cold ski conditions.
Pal is a very scenic resort, awash with snow covered pine trees and sheltered sunny slopes, part of the famous Vallnord Ski Area, offering a great selection of greens, blues and reds and over 70 kilometres of well groomed piste and with more snow cannons being added every year, then conditions are almost perfect.
Beginners come to Pal to learn to ski in one of Europe’s safest and sunniest resorts, with a great choice of gentle greens and blue runs to start on. The English speaking ski school adds much to your holiday too, not only are you taught to ski by British standard instructors, you are often in groups of same level ability skiers and fun is always at the forefront of the lessons. Families return here too, with excellent child care facilities offered by the hotels and of course the crèche and kindergarten offer a safe and secure environment for the little ones.
Intermediates enjoy pal now, especially as the skiing is now much larger with the joining with Arinsal, With over 70% of runs being blue and red, there is a huge choice to entertain any skier. The beauty of skiing in Andorra too, is that other resorts such as Soldeu and Pas de La Casa can be skied too, there is a local ski bus that will take you there and you can ski away for the day and lift pass charges are very reasonable too.
Advanced skiers will be slightly restricted with a distinct lack of difficult black runs, however there are some challenging mogul runs and some great off piste opportunities.
Pal and Arinsal offer some amazing snowboarding action, the radical freestyle area boasts a half pipe, a big air jump as well as boarder cross, more jumps, curves and music piped out too. The lift system is well suited for boarders too and the queues are minimal making this a great destination to learn or improve.
Apres ski is really good in Arinsal and Pal, there is a full programme on offer for evening entertainment and events. Torchlight descents, tobogganing, bowling and quiz nights to name but a few. Pal and Arinsal have a good choice of bars and restaurants and of course the duty free status makes for a very cheap night out.
Non ski activities are endless, with sleigh rides, paragliding, duty free shopping in capital Andorra La Vela, Dog Sledding, thermal spa, ski biking and a cinema. There’s plenty to do and activities are all reasonable in cost.
