Snow Range 580m to 3250m. Nestled in the heart of the breathtaking Ziller valley, Mayrhofen’s skiing and apres ski are both of exceptional quality. With a wide range of other activities on offer, the resort is well renowned as a family destination. Mayrhofen has two sunbathed plateaux, Penken and Ahorn. Cable cars and gondolas to both plateaux are situated just 200m apart in the village.
The resort is also connected by a free bus service to the vast Zillertal area, home to the Hintertux Glacier. Mayrhofen is an ideal location for skiers of all levels.
Access to the piste is via 2 cable cars from the village linking up with 177 gondolas and chairs lifts. The resort offers a total of 625km of piste totalling 133 runs:
The longest of the runs is 5.5km and in addition there is 30km of cross country skiing.
There is anything from 55 to 90 fully qualified instructors available. Tuition usually takes place between the hours of 10.00 and 12.00 in the morning and 1.15 and 3.15 in the afternoon, with no tuition available on New Year’s Day. Supervised lunch is available for the younger members of the party in a fun ‘children only’ restaurant, with games and entertainment at a price of around €9 a day. A creche is available for children from 2 to 4 years inclusive, operating Mon-Fri, from 0930 to 1530. This is bookable locally, at approximately €9 per hour.
There are a wide variety of hotels in Mayrhofen, ranging from 5 star luxury accommodation to family run guest houses for the more modest budget.
The elegant Elisabeth Hotel boasts a spa resort and outstanding gourmet restaurant. The fine shopping and exciting nightlife of the village are only a few minutes walk away, while the welcoming log fire lounges and en suite facilities more than satisfy the less adventurous.
There are a host of 4 star hotels within the resort. A cut above the rest, Hotel Neuhaus and Manni’s Sporthotel are actually rated 4.5 stars. The Neuhaus was originally built in the 17th Century and offers a superb range of cuisine, while the more modern Manni’s prides itself on its excellent range of facilities.
Other hotels in this quality range include, Alpenhotel Kramerwirt (popular with British skiers), the centrally located Hotel Berghof, Hotel Pramstraller (which offers a family atmosphere) and the extremely popular Hotel Rose; the exquisite views from Hotel St. Georg, the tranquil Hotel Zillertalerhof and Spa Hotel Strass make them a favourite with tour operators.
The comfort and excellent home cooking of Strolz makes this traditional Austrian hotel the number one choice for 3 star accommodation. Others include Hotel Brucke only a few minutes walk from the Penken Gondola, the centrally located Hotel Garni Postschlossl and Hotel Kristall with Hotel Strass Garni and Villa Strass both enjoying use of the facilities offered by the 4 star Spa Hotel Strass.
Guest houses offering warm and homely service at an affordable price include the Mayrhofen Guesthouse which offers chalet accommodation in a peaceful part of the resort and the family run Strass Snow Homes.
Mayrhofen is generally considered to be ‘decidedly lively’ at night with a wide range of discos, nightclubs and themed bars. The resort also boasts a range of fine shopping, a post office, bank and supermarket. All other winter related sports are on offer along with a host of indoor activities.
