Wengen is a beautiful, charming and traditional Swiss village nested beautifully in the Jungfrau Ski Region, Wengen lies high up, in the sheltered areas at the bottom of the infamous Jungfrau mountain. There is over 110 kilometres of fantastic, well groomed piste and if you buy an all area lift pass, you can get 210 kilometres in the Jungfrau region too, making it a perfect destination for all level of skiers.
There is many ways of getting around this ski area too, there is a cable car from Wengen village centre which links you into Grindlewald and there is local ski buses too and a lovely little train which will take you over to the most amazing ski areas of Kleine Scheidegg, the expanse of skiable snow is huge and is sure to disappoint no one.
Beginners will have access to some lovely wide nursery slopes and the beginners park at Kleines Scheidegg makes it a perfect place to try on some ski’s and build up you confidence. There are a couple of English speaking ski schools offering reasonably priced tuition, either privately of in a group.
Families are also welcome at the ski park for beginners making is a safe and secure environment for the little ones. There is also child care options for children as young as 18 months, with kiddy’s ski schools, crèches and kindergartens, again at very good prices.
Intermediates will be in ski heaven, the Jungfrau region offer a mass of reds, difficult blues, especially popular are the Wixi and Fallboden.
Advanced skiers have a great selection of runs, over 20 in Wengen alone, and more confident skiers must head over to Eigerletcher or the Lauberhorn where there is some powder snow, difficult descents and some amazing off piste opportunities.
Jungfrau and Wengen are snowboarders paradise, with over 4 different free ride areas and a mass of jumps, half pipes and kickers and off course amazing up to date money.
The village of Wengen has a lovely traditional feel to it, with a nice selection of shops, bars and places to dine. It has a laid back atmosphere, but can get busier on weekends.
There is a great selection of activities for non skiers too, curling, ice skating, snow treks, tobogganing to mention a few. There are some beautiful hotels too offering lovely spa facilities.
