Skiing holidays are renowned for costing a small fortune, not only do you have to pay for a flight, transfers and accommodation, you may need tuition, equipment and lift passes, then you need the correct clothing to ski in, makes for an pretty costly experience. BUT>>>>> there is destinations in Europe where you can ski and don’t need to take out a second mortgage, where you can save money on your ski holiday price and get bargains on equipment hire and lift passes too.
Top of the list is a ski holiday in Bulgaria, it cannot be beaten on value for money. Its may not have the biggest lifts system or the most extensive ski area, but it does offer some fantastic picture postcard scenery, fantastic conditions and all at a price that wont break the bank.
Ski Resorts such as Borovets offers and excellent choice of runs for families, beginners and intermediates, over 60 kilometres of piste and a ski school second to none. This bustling resort offers some fantastic Apres Ski, with a huge selection of bars, pubs and restaurants. There is live music and even a handful of night clubs. There is bargains galore in the big selection of shops and market style stalls too. And for non skiers there is an excellent choice of activities, i.e. ice skating, cinema, bum boarding, snow walks, trips to Sofia and Rila and sleigh rides. Other resorts in Bulgaria such as Bansko and Pamporovo offer similar things to Borovets but on a quieter scale. Look out for the learn to ski packs, which include all you will need except your clothing, it includes skis, boots, tuition and lift passes, and for 2011/2012 season prices range approximately £169 - £189.
Next on the list is Andorra located up in the Pyrenean Mountains between France and Spain and it is probabilities the most returned too destination on the ski circuit. First reason for this is its duty free status, making all food, drink and activities extremely cheap. There is a great choice of budget accommodation in Andorra, however over recent years quite a few luxurious hotels have cropped up, add to this a brand new and ever expanding lift system, makes Andorra perfect regardless of your skiing ability.
Soldeu and Pas de La Casa are the largest resorts offering a massive expanse of pisted runs, exceptional off-piste opportunities and an Apres Ski to rival most others. They are high altitude resorts with spectacular scenery and a great selection of bars, restaurants to choose from. Families come here year after year too, beautiful wide sunny slopes, and exceptional ski school and some fabulous childcare facilities. Be sure to look out for the learn to ski packs on offer in Andorra too, with prices starting at approximately £229 for adult and £119 for children.
So you see, you can try your hand at skiing, without having to break the bank. There are many ways of saving money, most major tour operators will offer a discount if there is a group of people, you may qualify for a free place or may even get a 2 for 1 offer on your lift passes. Be sure to check all operators discounts in their brochures.
