Getting Fit for the Slopes

How to prepare for skiing and snowboarding

Skiing and snowboarding a two very physical sports, so it’s good to prepare yourself for the physical strain you are about to endure. Here at www.cheapskiholidays.com, we would recommend at least 6 weeks of intensive workouts before your holiday. This can include running, walking, aerobics and any other cardio exercises which get your blood pumping and your body sweating. Its great fun skiing but being on the slopes all day can certainly take it out of you.

Improving your flexibility, strength and stamina are all key to making sure you are fit and ready for your holiday and this in turn means you will enjoy your holiday more and make the most of your time there.

Preparation Before You Start

Before your first day on the slopes, make sure you stretch thoroughly, especially your thighs and leg muscles. Warming up before you ski is essential and goes part way to reducing tired muscles and helps to avoid injury too. Always warm down and have a stretch at the end of the day. Many people enjoy a gentle swim or a hot tub too to help repair those muscles for the next day.

If you are new to skiing, the first couple of days can be tough, it takes a while to learn the basics and it will feel like nothing else you have ever done before. Try a few lessons at your local indoor ski slope, it’s a great way of learning the basics and finding your feet. It’s also a great way of blowing off the cobwebs if you have skied before. Many operators can offer discounts for such places too, so be sure to check out all the deals.
