Skiing at Christmas time is always magical, but Zell Am See has so much more to offer than many other European resorts, Every year, the Christmas fair is opened by the mayor and children with thick woolly hats can join a special advent programme, carol singing and exchanging of Christmas stories. They can make their own advent coins and decorations and watch Santa Claus come through the village with his reindeer’s. It is truly a magical adventure for all concerned.
The skiing in Zell Am See at Christmas is great as Zell Am See is part of the Europe Sport Region which includes the neighbouring glacier resort of Kaprun, easily accessed by the local ski bus, the area provides a great range of pistes to suit all levels and with guaranteed Glacier snow, you can ski pretty much all year round. Very important if you are going early in the season.
Zell am See is a famous old Austrian resort, with a collection of medieval buildings, it lies on one of Austria’s most picturesque lakes, the scenery here is breathtaking and when the village is a lit up, it creates an unforgettable ambience. With a great range of family orientated or lively bars and a massive choice of restaurants, there is sure to be something here to suit every bodies tastes.
Skiing in Zell am See is second to none, all levels of skiers and snowboards are catered for, A high altitude resort, beginners have over 31 blues and wide sweeping greens to build up confidence on and long cruising runs back into the resort centre. The ski school here is renound as one of the best in Europe and have a variety of options for learn to ski packages. Children will love the kindergarten and crèche facilities and may even experience a few visits from Santa Claus over the Christmas period.
Intermediates will be impressed by the huge Schmittenhohe mountain, with it easily accessed, long runs back to Zell, with over 19 runs just nearby and even more to choose from in neighbouring Kaprun. Advanced skiers have a decent choice of black to choose from and some very steep challenging runs to excite all.
Snowboarders will enjoy two snow parks, one in Zell am See and 1 in Kaprun, giving plenty choice when deciding what to do next.
This charming little lakeside town offers a good range of shops and a traffic free centre, truly magical at Christmas time, and during the wintertime, the lake freezes over enabling to walk from one side to the other, while activities such as curling, ice skating are practised on it.
