If you are looking for a holiday in the Alps then you really wont do better than Saalbach in Austria, recently voted “The best resort for all types of skier and lively Apres ski”. Set high up, 1000 metres above sea level and the highest lift is 2096 metres, snow is virtually guaranteed. Its a superb resort with an attractive village centre, a lively and traditional atmosphere and has something to suit every persons taste.
There is over 200 kilometres of powdered piste and is part of “the Alpine Circus”, your all areas lift pass covers Saalbach and neighbouring Hinterglem and Leogang. The longest run is a red run called “The Schatterberg” and runs from the summit back to Sallbach through tree lined piste and is approximately 7 kilometres long. And if your legs get a bit tired, there is over 40 rustic mountain side cafés and restaurants to stop for a rest and a bite to eat and drink. Its also renound for being a sun trap and you shouldn’t be surprised to see people sunbathing in the snow.
With 27 wide sweeping, sunny blue runs mainly set in the hinterglem region and a fantastic English speaking ski school, this is a fabulous area to practise your techniques and build up your confidence.
Kids ski school and kindergarten are also renound as some of the best in The Alps, so you can leave your little ones in safe hands while you explore this beautiful area.
Saalbach has everything for the intermediate skier, 29 reds, wide open descents, tree lined pistes, spectacular views and all must try “The Schatterberg”.
Competent skiers have 5 very difficult blacks and a must is the long black run under the Schatterberg gondola and the off piste possibilities are absolutely sensational.
Snow Boarders will be in their element with 2 snowboard parks.
Saalbach is famous for its superb night-life, the Apres Ski is second to none, the villages have over 40 bars and 30 restaurants suiting every bodies taste and budget, many bars have live music with some famous bands frequenting them. Average prices for a beer is approximately 3 Euros and a 3 Course meal is about 12 Euros.
For the none skier, the activities are endless too, some of the top hotels have spas and saunas, outdoor hot-tubs and an abundance of other relaxing treatments on offer. Maybe try your hand skidooing, tobogganing, sleigh rides, ice carting or ten pin bowling or a spot of shopping in the many boutiques and ski shops.
