At an altitude of 2300 metres, Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe and is part of the huge Valleys area, and being so high up means longs hours of sunshine, unrivalled snow record and great ski for all grades.
Val Thorens is ideal for beginners with 8 greens, 25 blues to learn to ski or board with wide gentle runs right next to the village centre. It has an amazing ski school with English speaking instructors. Child care in resort is fantastic too, with non ski kindergarten or ski kindergarten available, and many of the chalets and hotels offer baby sitting services making it perfect for families.
Intermediates are well catered for with extensive skiing and some of the best intermediate runs in the 3 valleys, from the good choice on the Peclet glacier to the long cruisy routes down to the village and Les Menuires.
Advances skiers will love the long steep Combe Rosael and Combe de Caron blacks and will be spoilt for choice for bumps, superb off piste including the spectacular Vallon Du Lou.
There are 2 “boarder crosses” in Val Thorens and an excellent snow park as well as plenty of exciting off piste opportunity.
Night-life in Val Thorens is informal and relaxed with a good choice of restaurants, bars and clubs. For the non skiers, there is a fantastic sports centre with tennis, squash, and indoor pool and a sauna and jacuzzi, not to mention a cinema, a tenpin bowling alley, some lovely shops and some beautiful sleigh rides and walks.
So for a resort which offers ski in, ski out, mountain top to door skiing, Val Thorens just cant be beaten and with prices starting at £389 for a weeks self catering, you will be hard pushed to find fault here.
